COLUMBIA, S.C. --?
Benedict College is scheduled to host a two-day celebration for Black History Month that features workshops for students, a celebration dinner and special guest speakers.
Benedict spokeswoman Kymm Hunter says the event begins Tuesday with a dinner and continues Wednesday with a series of workshops at various locations across the campus.
Students will be able to question guests at the workshops about their lives and achievements. They include artist Jonathon Green, Jacob Gillison, the office manager for Democrat Rep. John Lewis of Georgia, and DeMaurice Smith, executive director of the NFL Players Association.
The event also will mark the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation and the 50th year since the Rev. Martin Luther King led the march on Washington, D.C.
